Quickfire Skills

This project involved designing a real place in Nottingham during a different time period and creating a set version of it. The limited time frame required me to create a model, a visual, and a technical drawing using hand drafting. To begin, I conducted research on what the arboretum used to look like. I carefully planned my time and set internal deadlines to ensure I stayed on track. To save time, I traced over my model to create my visual. It was interesting to see everyone else's approach to the same task.

We divided into groups and measured out the cafe. If we couldn't reach certain areas, we used known objects to calculate their size using rulers on the board. However, we encountered a problem when we realized we didn't have pictures of all sides of the area as some were inaccessible. To solve this, we scouted different vantage points around the Waverly building and used Google Earth's satellite photography to get a better sense of the area. I made sure to only use my own measurements.

To enhance my visual, I used a mixture of media, including 3D, digital drawing, and traditional drawing. I experimented with a different glue for my model, but it didn't hold up well after a few days. I was disheartened when it fell apart, but I reacted to my feedback and replaced some pieces, as seen in my model photos below.

Overall, I feel like I could really improve this project for my portfolio as there are some elements that could really be improved. However, I am proud of my advances in handdrafting as well as visualising a space without being there. This was also the first time I ever used Twinmotion, and I'd definitely like to get better at that in the future.
